International Students

An International applicant is a student who is resident overseas and who is seeking sponsorship under the School’s Child Student sponsor licence.

At Mount House (an independent day school for 11-18 year olds) we offer skilled teaching in a very special environment. Class sizes are small and our experienced teachers provide plenty of support to help students achieve high standards.

We equip students with academic and life skills that give them the best possible chance of success, whether at universities such as Oxford, Cambridge or LSE, specialist colleges like London School of Fashion or in any career path they choose.

We understand how important it is that your child feels happy and secure and will do everything we can to help students transfer to London/Hertfordshire and settle in well. We appreciate it may be a student’s first visit to the UK and want their experience to be happy and successful.

Mount House appreciates the diversity that students from overseas bring to the whole school. Our international students join in with every aspect of school life, follow a full curriculum and enjoy all our social events. We offer a UK curriculum, working towards GCSE & A Level examinations.

GCSE

Students begin GCSE study in Year 10 and are taught in small classes. They usually study seven subjects, including the core subjects of Maths, Science and English and choose others from our range of GCSE options. Read more about our curriculum here.

A LEVEL/ IB (INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE)

In Year 12, (Sixth Form) our A Level courses start each September and January and we offer a wide range of subjects. In Year 12, students will study four subjects and their native language. In Year 13, students will keep their three strongest subjects along with their native language. Mount House is also an IB accredited school and can offer the International Baccalaureate programme. The IB programme leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment. Read more about our Sixth Form here.

SUPPORT WITH ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Students without English as their first language are offered specialist, small group EAL (English as an additional language) at an additional cost. EAL lessons help with written and spoken English. Our EAL lessons are designed to help integrate students in to school life and support them to access the curriculum.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICATIONS/ VISAS

Mount House School is able to sponsor a number of International (Non-British or Irish) Child-Student Visas. Child Students can apply for a Child Student Visa if they’re between 4 and 17 years old and they want to study at an independent school in the UK. This Child Student Visa has replaced the ‘Tier 4 (Child) student visa’. Our Admissions department directly manages the application and will help you through the process.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FEES

Our school fees for international students are the same as our UK student school fees. However, we require a registration fee of £350 for all international applications which covers the application process in preparation for the CAS/Child-Student Visa application. Click here to view our current school fees. Please note, we are a day school and offer no accommodation.

CONDITIONS

Mount House School can only accept international students where there are certain child care arrangements in place. The two acceptable care arrangement categories that a Child-Student may fall under are:

  1. Living with an accompanying parent applying for the Parent of a Child at School visa
  2. Living with a UK-settled Close Relative (proof of relation will be required)

ONCE A PLACE IS OFFERED

Once the student has registered, sat our entrance exam and had a family interview (video interview accepted) with the Head, the school may issue an ‘unconditional offer’. The school asks for £1000 acceptance deposit which is returned to you when your child leaves Mount House School, and for all international applications, we require a further deposit which is equal to a minimum of one terms school fees. In addition to those deposits, the first term’s school fees are due prior to the student’s start date. Once we have received the deposits and the place has been accepted, our Admissions team will start the Child-Student Visa process.
