Academic Enrichment Programme

This programme is available at Mount House to promote a thirst for knowledge, develop a life-long love of learning to support students on their next step to attend university.  The aim is to provide intellectual stimulation beyond the boundaries of the classroom curriculum by presenting students with opportunities to broaden their minds, challenge their views and introduce new ideas to develop skills of critical thinking.

Highlights of AEP include:

LECTURE SOCIETY:

Guest speakers followed by discussions on issues such as the arts, business, charities, environmental issues, politics which. For example: How did we manage to put a man on the moon?

HEAD’S ENDEAVOUR CUP:

Students have to complete a number of activities including expeditions, a charity event, extended writing, service in the community, presentations.

MODEL HOUSE OF COMMONS:

Every half term an issue is debated in the ‘Chamber’ and voted upon.

VARSITY GROUP:

For students who have significant academic potential this group prepares students for leading university applications and interviews with critical thinking exercises, visits to academic institutions, and discussion groups.

EXPEDITIONS:

Meeting every two weeks to prepare for an expedition in the UK with training for camping and outdoors. Where possible this is linked to the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme.
