I came to Mount House half way through Year 7 after being at a state school. When I arrived I was welcomed by everyone and I knew I would make lifelong friends here. I have a big passion for football and coming here let me exploit that as I play in the football team. I have no pressure on me to get an answer right and if I get it wrong I am allowed to try, try again which is why I like being at Mount House.
Many people struggle with being shy. I used to struggle with that until I joined Mount House. The teachers here helped me overcome this fear of people and helped me shine in the subjects I started enjoying.
Since I joined Mount House I discovered that I was pretty good at subjects like maths and physics but I wasn’t confident in them. Then I began to lose myself in the amazing world of these subjects, stopped worrying about what the people around me thought, and began to participate in the lessons. The teachers somehow helped me to upgrade my level of confidence.
The message we all hear at Mount House is that confidence leads to success which leads to more confidence and more success, and that’s what started happening to me. I started enjoying my lessons and I got amazing grades; I began to practice the work we were doing in class at home. I discovered I had done too little before and I have become a more hardworking person.
I have been coming to Mount House School since Year 7 when it was St Martha’s and I have enjoyed my time here very much. The school has made me more confident through different experiences. For example, at the Spring Concert I was able to showcase my singing, which is what I love to do, as well as dancing. I have made friends who I will have for a lifetime and I am really happy that I got the opportunity to come here.
I joined Mount House in Sixth Form. It has been an amazing time since I’ve been in the school.Studying sciences at A-level, I get involved in many activities including summer schools and university lectures. This has given me the opportunity to deepen my learning of the subjects and broaden my perspective. I also love playing football with younger year students during break time. I feel like I am part of a big family in this community.
Studying at Mount House since Year 7 has nurtured me into a confident and aspiring student. I have learnt the necessity of teamwork and looking after your peers while simultaneously finding the best ways to organise your academic and co-curricular activities. The endless opportunities I’ve received during my time here have allowed me to flourish and enhance my skills. My journey has truly been memorable and has prepared me to encounter real life situations in the future. During my time at Mount House, I hope to inspire the rest of the school to make their journey as significant as mine.
Joining Mount House, when formerly known as St Martha’s, in Year 8 was a very big change. Coming from a large school to Mount House, I didn’t know how it would compare. From the minute I walked in, I was welcomed with a sense of community and it only enhanced the feeling of a family. The small environment has allowed me to develop in a number of ways. We all have strong relationships with both teachers and other pupils and I know that I have made friends I will have for life.
From my academic point of view, studying in small groups and studying subjects I would otherwise not have been exposed to has shaped what I will do in the future. Not only has the school helped me academically, it has also assisted me to reach my potential in my sport. The support from the teachers had enabled me to compete at national school events, with and without the school.
When entering Sixth Form I applied for and was given the role of Head Girl. This has allowed me to work closely with the Senior Leadership Team. By bringing the ideas and points of view of the students to the staff, we have together enhanced our environment and created a space for all to prosper and reach their potential.
I joined Mount House School in Year 12 and coming from a much bigger school I was worried as I chose to move schools at a very important time in my educational career and was concerned it might have been a mistake. However, my worries quickly disappeared.
After being here for over a year now, I can happily say that I feel more confident than ever before. My classes are small and I receive so much support from my teachers that my grades haven’t been better. The opportunities that have been on offer to me were more than I expected and I have been given the responsibility and privilege of being House Captain as well as Deputy Head Boy. Mount House has helped me achieve success in my education, character building and future aspirations.
Success is a journey. This is a sentiment that Mount House enshrines in all of its pupils, which is the most endearing aspect about our school community. The school welcomed me with open arms and reinforced the importance of utilising every opportunity one can undertake, to increase your confidence, skills and talent. Mount House shapes and nurtures pupils, equipping them with miscellaneous skills to conquer any life challenge that one may face. Mount House believes this is where true success lies.
As a student studying in a state school for five years, transitioning into an independent school was a task that was certainly going to present itself with challenges. However, the supportive staff aided me to transition effortlessly and supported me immensely throughout my first academic year at Mount House, recognising my potential and encouraging me to strive for the best. Simultaneously, I have been presented with challenges to enhance my learning as well as many opportunities to accentuate my talents in the arts. I have started my own radio club, become the President of the Student Council, and had the opportunity to debate in our school assemblies. I am excited to see what lies ahead next year. Unequivocally, I believe that Mount House will continue to commit to its ethos, inspiring every individual to ensure success for each and every one of its students.
